HIGH-PERFORMANCE
ADDITIVE MASTERBATCHES.
Americhem additive masterbatches produce solution-providing properties for our customers’ products. Our additives are offered for multiple polymers in order to suit a wider variety of needs.
Additive masterbatches can be used as stand-alone products or combined with color to produce a customized masterbatch. The most common additive masterbatches include:
Antioxidants prevent oxidative degradation during the processing of plastics. Oxidative degradation can result in the deterioration of physical and/or mechanical properties of plastic products.
UV Stabilizers protect the polymer from UV light-induced degradation, preserving the physical and/or mechanical properties of the plastic product.
Antimicrobials help prevent fouling of plastic materials where part of the material might be susceptible to microbiological attack. Such attacks can cause staining, discoloration, odor and loss of aesthetics but, more importantly, loss of electrical insulating properties, hygiene and overall loss of mechanical properties in the material.
AA Reducers reduce the residual acetaldehyde (AA) levels in PET.
Flame Retardants prevent ignition or spread of flame in plastic material. Plastics see substantial use in critical construction, electrical and transport applications that have to meet fire safety standards either by mandatory regulations or voluntary standards. Flame retardants are added to plastics to meet these requirements.
Oxygen Barriers are intended to improve the overall shelf life of a product by helping to reduce oxygen that enters a container.
Scratch and Mar Additives reduce and, in some cases, eliminate both marring and scratching of a polymer surface. Both events result in an unpleasant aesthetic defect during post-production or assembly.
Slip Agents help to alter the surface characteristics of the material. These are beneficial in packaging for bottle denesting. They also improve preform packing and product evacuation, and help eliminate preform sticking (mold release). Additionally, slip agents can alter the friction coefficient of the film to prevent films from adhering to themselves or to the production equipment during film processing.
Antistatic Agents help prevent static charging that can be generated during processing, transportation, filling or any handling of the plastic part. Static charging can result in dust accumulation or even dangerous sparking in hazardous environments.
Optical Brighteners increase the whiteness or brightness of a material.
Chemical Blowing Agents impart a foaming agent into a thermoplastic by way of a compound that releases gas when heated to a certain temperature. We offer a complete line of optimized chemical blowing agents with nCore® by Americhem. impart a foaming agent into a thermoplastic by way of a compound that releases gas when heated to a certain temperature. Nucleating Agents enhance the properties of polymers by modifying the crystals that make up the polymer. Property improvements include gloss, optical clarity, reduced warping and faster cycle times.
Wood Composite Additives impart color and appearance retention to wood composite products by adding UV stabilizers to certain color concentrates using a similar process as chemical blowing agents. This cellulosic filler is offered exclusively to Americhem customers and cannot be found anywhere else.
