Position: Regulatory Scientist

Location: Cuyahoga Falls, OH

Position Summary: The Regulatory Scientist understands and complies with regulations for the development and manufacturing of Americhem products. They are obligated to assess chemicals for potential hazards and to protect employees and the environment from harm. They will possess a strong knowledge of raw materials used in the thermoplastic industry including polymers, pigments and additives. Position Requirements/Qualifications: Education: Technical degree (BA/BS Chemistry) or equivalent required, advanced degree a plus Experience: 5 years of relevant work in a Regulatory, Environmental Health and Safety position preferred Knowledge of MSDS requirements under OSHA, WHIMS, ANSI, EU(REACH) and GHS and regulatory database system management experience a plus Knowledge of TSCA, RCRA, EPCRA, SARA, FIFRA, FDA, and DOT and relevant experience in the area of product safety and hazard communication is preferred Essential Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. • Regulatory responsibility by monitoring legislative activity, regulatory requirements, and communicating potential impact on the business for issues associated with product compliance, hazardous materials, labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS); administrator for regulatory database system; capturing technical information obtained through various references, maintains a centralized database on Americhem raw materials; manages and maintains regulatory system updates; authors (MSDS) and product labeling for specialty thermoplastic masterbatch products; ensures labels worldwide are in compliance; reviewing MSDS for safe use and handling by manufacturing sites globally and ensuring that raw material usage complies with all regulations; supports international business requests pertaining to regulations; develops and implements effective safety program for manufacturing sites globally; interpreting hazard communication regulations for specific chemical uses and communicates to manufacturing personnel; and assumes responsibility for environmental monitoring. • Maintains Documentation by maintaining records of raw material registrations and registrations deadlines; responding to requests and other correspondence from regulatory agencies and customers; completing regulatory compliance reports including SARA 313 and Tier II RTK reports, air permits, water permits, and required environmental monitoring associated with reporting • Improves Job Knowledge by attending training and keeping relevant knowledge and skills current • Demonstrates Interpersonal skills by working independently and with a team; delegates workload and responsibilities; attention to detail; effective time management; ability to meet deadlines; technical writing and verbal communicating; and good organizational skills • Contributes to Organization Success by meeting team and company goals; demonstrating company principles and policies; helping others accomplish job results; following all Quality System and safety protocol; safely operating equipment; wearing proper protective equipment; completing safety training; and contributing to safety goal of zero accidents; meeting attendance guidelines; develops and assists in implementation of ideas for continuous improvement; serving as a liaison to business leaders and internal subject matter experts globally as new products are developed and as regulations emerge that impact legal compliance and/or safe handling; update and present plan for compliance, interpret business impact and oversee implementation; actively participating in EH&S organizations to advance Americhem’s position in the industry
